lyrics

Two lonely men on their way to their home
Who watched Christ die and be laid in a tomb
Grief in their hearts, they would not be consoled
Even with news He had risen

Then on their way they were joined by a man
Who asked to know what had made them so sad
They were surprised that in all of the land
He did not know Jesus had died

"You foolish men and slow to believe
Prophets foretold Christ would suffer and bleed
Glory for Him from His Father receive"
These words He spoke were about Him

Set to go on the two pressed Him to stay
Both telling Him that the time was now late
Set before Him was a loaf on a plate
Acting as host He would bless it

Words that He spoke that our Scriptures record
Christ came to die but He would be restored
Comfort we felt but did not see the Lord
We knew Him when He broke the bread

It's not the bread but the breaking of bread
It's not the wine but His cup to be shared
Not just His words but what He did declare
"Do this in remembrance of Me."

Eyes open wide, they watched Christ disappear
Recalling now how He dispelled their fears
Running to town to fill His friends with cheer
We knew Him when He broke the bread

It's not the bread but the breaking of bread
It's not the wine but His cup to be shared
Not just His words but what He did declare
"Do this in remembrance of Me.
Do this in remembrance of Me."

Standing around, they were counting the cost
When Christ appeared they thought He was a ghost
"Peace be with you," He said to calm His hosts
He took their fish and He ate it

It's not the bread but the breaking of bread
It's not the wine but His cup to be shared
It's not our thoughts but our acts that declare
Do this is remembrance of Him
Do this is remembrance of Him
Do this is remembrance of Him.
