Matthew 27:33
Mark 15:22
John 19:17

The place of a skull
That infamous hill
Where time and eternity stood still
Outside the gate of the holy city
Where innocent blood was spilled
The Messiah was killed

All the angels have drawn their swords
Surely this is the last straw
Yet they held their peace
And beheld their Lord
Heaven’s King of glory
Crucified on a Roman cross

The sky became black at midday
As all of creation mourns her Creator

The end of the road
Of a debated career
Even His Father, Him forsakes
In the midst of the crowd
Amid the railings and jeers
The devil retaliates
The Messiah he hates

As the legions of hell wreak revenge
How can You take this lying down?
As the curse of all generations
You possess
And Your soul is poured out
A sacrifice for the sins of man

God is dead
So they said
He’s buried
In a sealed, guarded grave
He saved others
So let Him save Himself
From the pit, the pit of hell
The sting of death

He was cut off
From the land of the living
Where dead men tell no tales
He was betrayed, denied
Rejected, despised, God-forsaken
The gates of hell
It would seem, have prevailed
Can it He has failed?

Meanwhile, deep in Hades
Where the devil and his angels celebrate
When suddenly
Deathly silence
As the stone heaved away
And the keys of death change hands
When on the third day
The Messiah rose again
He rose from the dead
He overcame death
Through His own death
O, let God arise
Forevermore alive
He holds the keys
To death and Hades

Glory to Thee
God of gods
Lord of lords
King of kings

He endured the cross
Despising the shame
For the joy that was set before Him
That we, dead in our sin
Would be born again
Through His death
And triumphant resurrection
Messiah paid our ransom

Your creation, it groans and travails
For You to reconcile Israel
Where Golgotha’s hill
And the empty tomb
Stand to this day to testify
To the truth
To the truth ...
