Written by Larry from Queen Street
Photo: Toronto circa 1984

Upon moving to Toronto from Vancouver in the Fall of '83, I helped form a short-lived band through a cryptic ad in NOW Magazine (TO's Village Voice), our group unofficially dubbed "Lip Service."

Lip Service was an eclectic mix: Larry from Queen Street on keyboards and vocals, Gord from Winnipeg on guitar, sax and vocals, Iain, a prodigy from Humber College on electric and lead guitars, Amaziah from Israel on drums and percussion, and myself on bass and vocals (as well as having the Teac multitrack recorder and basement studio near Dufferin and Bloor wherein we made our music).

Though never able to develop any kind of chemistry as musicians, we did manage to record four songs -- written by four of the five members -- before rather unceremoniously folding into oblivion. Those songs, stored on cassette tape, schlepped between BC and Ontario these past few decades, were recently dug up and given the Pro Tools/Abbey Road treatment.
