The Door 03:09
An open door Is what we seek You shut the door That's not meant to be One open door Is all we need You shut the door That's not meant to be Lord, Lord You alone shut the door And open the door You alone hold the key To open the prison doors And set us free Lord, Lord You alone shut the door And open the door You, O Lord, are the Door You alone are my Abba And I, Your son Lord, Lord, Lord You alone, You alone You alone shut the door Shut the door And open the door The Door The Door.

The cool of the day Creation Elation awakening To celebrate the Maker’s way From out of the dust and clay Creator Fashions me Breathes life in me Enlightens me Inviting me In the cool of the day Unadorned and unashamed Cool In the garden So welcoming He walks with me My dearest friend talks to me Who loves me In naked transparency Adam, Adam, where are you? Cast into deepest sleep Awakened He brings to me my Chavah dear My blessed Eve Explore among the trees For beauty and bliss To give one pause New fruit to eat To satisfy To let one see To make one wise In the cool of the day Unadorned and unashamed In the cool of the day Unhidden and unchained Cool Adam, Adam, where are you? Abba ...

This side of the Jordan My heart is becalmed It’s the best of times Even in the worst of times This side of the Jordan The tribes are in mourning The pain keeps on gaining And shows no sign of waning On this side of the Jordan A little cloud is formin’ The size of a man’s hand Few will see it, but some can It’s a harbinger of things unseen Portending what soon shall be On this side of the Jordan This side of the Jordan The Ruse is finally over The Truth so blinding Reveals all disguises On this side of the Jordan The guy behind the curtain Pride has paralyzed him Though it weren’t for want of tryin’ If he could just surrender, humble his head But he won’t: so it’s scorched earth for us instead On this side This side of His Passion The darkness is passing The True Light now shining The long night in decline On this side of the Jordan This ancient war endures This battlefield we’re all plunged in Not one of us who ain’t been singed On this side of the Jordan Despite all appearing Lift your heads, the Day is nearing For the justice, we are yearning While the wise keep on learning Their lamps trimmed and burning So come eat, come drink at the Table of the King Come laugh, come cry, come rant, come sing On this side of the Jordan “It’s enough, O Lord, just take my life I’m on my own, there’s nothing left.” But the Lord said, “You are not alone I am with everywhere you are I’ll not abandon you, dear one Just fix your eyes on Me My friend, My child This side of the Jordan.”

I asked the Lord that I might grow In faith, and love, and every grace Might more of His salvation know And seek more earnestly His face ‘Twas He who taught me thus to pray And He, I trust, has answered prayer But it has been in such a way As almost drove me to despair I hoped that in some favoured hour At once He’d answer my request And by His love’s constraining power Subdue my sins and give me rest Instead of this, He made me feel The hidden evils of my heart And let the angry powers of hell Assault my soul in every part Yea, more with His own hand He seemed Intent to aggravate my woe Crossed all the fair designs I schemed Blasted my gourds, and laid me low “Lord, why is this?” I trembling cried “Wilt Thou pursue Thy worm to death?” “’Tis in this way,” the Lord replied “I answer prayer for grace and faith “These inward trials I employ From self and pride to set thee free And break thy schemes of earthly joy That thou mayest seek thy all in Me.” I asked the Lord that I might grow In faith, and love, and every grace Might more of His salvation know And seek more earnestly His face ...

Call Unto Me 06:39
Call unto Me and I will answer Call unto Me and I will answer Call unto Me and I will answer thee And show thee great and mighty things Which thou knowest not Which thou knowest not Before I formed you in the womb I knew you Before you were born I set you apart And appointed you a prophet to the nations And I said, alas, Lord God! Everywhere I send you, you shall go And all that I command you shall speak Do not be afraid of them for I am with you To deliver you declares the Lord Call unto Me and I will answer thee And show thee great and mighty things Which thou knowest not Which thou knowest not Your words were found and I ate them They were my joy, my heart’s delight For I have been called by Your name O LORD God of Hosts Call unto Me and I will answer thee And show thee great and mighty things Which thou knowest not Which thou knowest not I did not sit in the circle of merrymakers Because of Your hand upon me I sat alone For You have filled me with Your indignation A man of strife and contention I am become Why is my pain perpetual And my wound incurable? Refusing to be healed O Lord Will You be to me as a deceptive stream? As waters unfaithful? O LORD, You have deceived me and I was deceived You have overcome me and prevailed I am become a laughingstock of mockers But if I say I will not speak in His name My heart becomes a burning fire shut up in my bones And I cannot hold it in, cannot refrain They will surely fight against you Yet they shall not prevail over you For I am with you to save you And deliver you, declares the LORD Call unto Me and I will answer thee And show thee great and mighty things Which thou knowest not Which thou knowest not Which thou knowest not Call unto Me and I will answer Call unto Me and I will answer Call unto Me and I will answer ...

Proverbs 04:48
Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles Let my words be few And let them not fall not to the ground As a man of unclean lips Living in an unclean realm Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles In the multitude of words is sin not lacking But he who restrains his words is wise And wrath is turned away by a soft answer Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles Even a fool, when he keeps silent Is considered wise He who has knowledge spares his words A soothing word is a tree of life Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles Keep your heart with all diligence From it flow the springs of life Death and life are in the power of the tongue But the tongue of the wise brings healing Brings healing Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles Rejoice not over me O my enemy Though I fall I will rise Though I dwell in darkness The Lord is my light He is my light Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles Troubles Trouble ...

Another day in the Grey Town In the twilight rains Impending Götterdämmerung At the end of days Wandering these mean streets Nightfall is suspending Retreat from this unhappy scene Ride on to the higher plane Another day Another day Another day slips into eternity Webbed into our telescreens For the Two Minutes Hate Celebrity is the currency As all the nations rage Another day Another day Another day slips into eternity Eternity Dawn ready to break Eternity Songs aplenty to sing If I could remember their singing And write down the notes No one who read that score Would ever grow sick or old Meantime back in the Grey Town With all its ego trips Pride and self-importance Malice and pettiness I awoke in a cold room Hunched on the floor Beside a black and empty grate The clock striking three And the siren howling overhead Another day Another day Another day slips into eternity Another soul ...

Take it slow And wherever you go Make some time to smell that rose And do not worry Take it slow Though paradoxical Be diligent and also Do not be in a hurry You'll thank Me later Unbusy Mary of Bethany Seated at Jesus’ feet Listening to His Word Martha, dear So stressed-out, so full of fear Yet only one thing is needed And she has chosen what is better Sister’s chosen what is better Take it slow And whatever you do Do not be hasty Stay unbusy And thank Me later Thank Me later So she heard what He was going to do Whilst the others did argue Over who should be the greatest Sit closer at His table She scrimped and saved Finally purchased that vase Of precious fragrance Then poured it on His feet Poured it out on Jesus’ feet Take it slow And wherever you go Make the time to smell the rose And thank Me later Thank Me later Say, what a waste The poor could’ve used that years’ wage We sure should’ve put it to greater purpose Could’ve made it pay Let her be for it was meant to be That she should save this perfume For My burial day For My burial day Take it slow And whatever you do Do not be hasty Stay unbusy And thank Me later Take it slow And wherever you go Make the time to smell the roses And thank Me later Thank Me later You’ll thank Me later.

Rode the grey dog to the left coast Seventy hours on a desperate coach To bury me old man, slay the ghost Of a native homeland vagabond Feeling that cold familiar dread Heeding that voice that still presents To speak for me again, pretend Derelict vagabond I lurk in the shadow The murky grey matter So I say, why bother? It’ll only get harder Watching my years go to waste Wishing this fear would just go away Awash in existential angst Dangerously indifferent Two mad hounds fight to the death Whoever gets fed'll never relent Whatever gets made'll ever be spent Eccentric vagabond So love one another Be good to your mother Remember your father Forget all the drama Be kind to your brothers Sister and the others For to be a man-pleaser Always neater and cleaner I lurk in the shadow The murky grey matter So again I say, why bother? It’ll only get harder Better make your mind up, sister Better make your mind up, boy Better make your mind up, mister You're the double-minded man Better make your mind up, sister Better make your mind up, boy Better make your mind up, mister You're the double-minded man The double-minded man Is unstable in all his ways He folds up like a cheap suit At the first sign of adversity Adversity Better make your mind up, sister Better make your mind up, boy Better make your mind up, mister You're the double-minded man Better make your mind up, sister You were never meant to be a wind-up toy Better make your mind up, mister You're the double-minded man The double-minded man Is unstable in all his ways He folds up like a cheap suit At the first sign of adversity Adversity The double-minded man Is unstable in all his ways He folds up like a cheap suit At the first sign of adversity Adversity Adversity Adversity Repent, oh man So lackadaisical The ship has run aground So little traction to turn this thing around Repent, oh man Self-loathing leave behind The joy of being wrong Rediscover the right Ebenezer Scrooge’s visitation in the night Repent, oh man The Lord is closing in Purify your heart, double-minded soul Humble thyself, He shall lift you up Repent, my friend My friend …

Goodbye Maryjane It’s been too long So long Maryjane For this our swan song Goodbye Maryjane The enchantment is gone High time Maryjane To recant of my wrong You burned through me You burned through me Good night Maryjane Finally over now Farewell Maryjane These broken vows And the workarounds Always with the drama Always with the drama You take but never give Always with the drama Always with the drama A fake yet clever script You burned through me You burned through me You burned me down and out But now the jig is up The chaff is burned A new leaf has turned ...

Everybody follows the loud prophet Or the quiet sage Or maybe you're a man who heeds only himself All in all, by and by Prophet and sage will die And in the end you stand alone Will you rise again? Will you rise again? You read the book you decide to choose Every day you win or lose And in your heart you long for peace Get all you can, do your best Take your downers, you need your rest In the end you stand alone Will you rise again? Will you rise again? The Lord Almighty, clothed in flesh Came to earth and took the test And in the end He stood alone All the angels wondered why Their Master would come and die And as they watched He died alone But He rose again Yes He rose again! Will you rise again? Will you rise again?

about

These songs were born out of a cross-country wilderness wandering between 2015-19, an anxious season of humiliation, depression, addiction, grief, and ultimately, grace, redemption and thankfulness.
